More Or Less from Quilt Paint Create

Open Dialogue is coming along. I added more fabric bits, fused them and stitched them down with embroidery floss. I didn’t want anything falling off.

I did similar stitching on this piece. It may be a thing going forward.

Now I’m looking at the green splotches and listening. They feel out of place. Do they need toned down? So many choices to do that: paint, crayon, tulle, thread, fabric, lace, or any combination thereof.

A bolder choice would be to add more green to keep the others company.

Leave it, hide it or add to it – what do ...

Sunday Stash August 1, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

I paused a minute when I typed the date in the title. August? Really? I need to pay more attention to where I spend my time because I can hardly believe we’re eight months into the year.

I obviously am not spending my time in the sewing room because the numbers haven’t changed.

I hand stitched the circles down on the small art piece. I even basted it. Perhaps this one will be a finish next week.

I have a list of other projects I want to work on. I better pick up the pace if I ever ...

Sunday Stash April 19, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

SS yellowGood progress on Bears With Borders this week. I finished the quilting, squared up the top, made the binding and cut the hanging sleeve. If I don’t finish it today, I will tomorrow. I’m counting the fabric out today and will post a picture of the finished quilt this week.
Next in the queue is A Walk In The Woods, which has been waiting patiently.

Sunday Stash April 12, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week. As the lockdown drags on I have a growing appreciation for my stash.
I used a quarter yard of fabric for masks. We’ve all seen enough mask pictures to last us a lifetime. I took a pass on posting pictures of mine.
SS yellowI finished quilting around the bears and will move on to the sashing. I sketched out a quilting design, but something about it bothered me. Once I rethought the quilting and came up with another plan I got my motivation back.
Anyone else ever slog through a project because a design decision ...

April 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s a new quarter and time for new quarterly and semi-annual goals. I had to make some adjustments to April’s goals because I don’t have supplies for some projects and don’t know when I can get them. I just shifted projects forward to the next quarter and picked other goals. I would have picked those projects eventually, and the order isn’t that important. I didn’t finish anything last month but made good progress on three projects.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form ...

Sunday Stash March 22, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

SS yellowNo change in the numbers this week. As things are I would have to work hard to add to the stash. I’m not one to buy much of anything online.

I quilted one block on Bears With Borders.  There’s an extra layer of batting under the embroidery for a slight trapunto effect.
quilted bearI needed to live with it for a bit to see if I liked the look. I thought about adding another round of stitching, but then the stitching would run off the edge at the sashing. I feel like that would emphasize that the designs aren ...

February 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Not much progress on the list last month. Many projects moved forward, but nothing was finished. I’ll see a few finishes this month.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design and stitchery. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.
UFO – All the frames are embroidered on the Bear quilt. It’s waiting its turn in line.
bears 1 to 10Garment – Very Easy Vogue shirt. This project is next on the list, in either green or pink. I’ll pull the ...

Sunday Stash January 5, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

Welcome to the first Sunday Stash of 2020!
We would love to have you join us. You can report weekly, monthly, whenever your numbers change or you have time. Some count fabric out as used, others when the project is complete. You can do whatever fits you best.
The point is not to use all your stash or never buy fabric again. We do this to be more intentional in what we buy and in using what we have. I also track because I have limited storage space and too much stash causes a clutter problem in my small sewing ...

January 2020 Short List and Q1 Goals from Quilt Paint Create

Happy New Year!
The Short List got a makeover for the new year. The categories now align with my quarterly goals instead of the more random categories of something old, something new, a handwork project, and creative play/design. I’ve used this system for over 5 years and think this format is more focused. As always, I can change the categories if my goals or interests change.
UFO – Ten block frames down, two to embroider on the Bear quilt.bears 1 to 10Garment – Very Easy Vogue 8253. I bought green fabric, but I also have a deep pink from the thrift that ...

December 2019 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished one project on the list last month. I debated adding a fifth category, Mindless Piecing, but decided against it. I can only focus on a couple projects at a time and make decent progress. Adding a fifth category wouldn’t have served a purpose. I’ll have to work mindless piecing into the other categories.
The Short List includes something old (UFO), something new, a handwork project, and creative play/design. I started using this system in November 2014 to keep myself focused. I add and delete categories as my interests change.
Something Old – I’m plugging away ...

November 2019 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

The list gets a complete overhaul this month. I finished the Holly Runner and the pillowcases in October. I also started and finished Pineapple Punch, although it wasn’t on the list. I did enough work on the bear blocks to figure out I needed a new plan that fit the style of the blocks. I also want to add a mindless sewing project.

Stash Report October 27, 2019 from Quilt Paint Create

The year is winding down with only two more months until we start fresh. So many of you have used impressive amounts of fabric this year and finished lots of quilts. Great job! Although I will end the year with more fabric than I had to start, I love the things I bought and have used several of the fabrics this year. It’s all good.
No change in the numbers this week. I’m quilting away on my current project and hope to finish it this week.
I’m also stitching away on those bear blocks. I greatly under ...
